Since 2012, the Public-Private Collaborations in Rural Health meeting has convened over 120 public and private foundations, researchers, and policy makers to discuss federal programs and foundation led-initiatives in rural areas. The meeting presents an opportunity to connect, share, and discuss how combined efforts can produce better outcomes for rural residents and communities.
In the spirit of collaboration and collective action, partnerships formed from these meetings built the Care Coordination Aligned Funding Initiative in 2014 and have produced nine programs funded either by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, private foundation, or both, dedicated to improving outcomes in chronic disease through the coordination of care. During its 2015 meeting, the group identified a need to tackle health equity through rural leadership. Over the last few months, a coordinating committee has been collaborating with the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to develop a strategy to use federal investments to enhance existing foundation programs focusing on developing community leaders to advance health equity in rural communities.
The purpose of this fourth meeting was to strengthen current activities and leverage regional and national relationships between foundations, researchers, and federal partners. During the meeting, participants heard from speakers from the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other agencies. Participants also had the opportunity to network with peers and hear about rural activities initiated since the last meeting.
This meeting was cosponsored by Grantmakers In Health, the White House Rural Council, and the National Rural Health Association.
