The statistics are stark. More than half of obese children are overweight by age two, and approximately one in five are overweight or obese by their sixth birthday. Across the country, families, child care providers, and health care professionals are tackling this crisis head on, determined to help solve the problem of childhood obesity in a generation. Recognizing that a focus on the first five years of a child’s life holds great potential, these innovators are working at the national, state, and local levels to ramp up and replicate promising solutions for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
This one-day meeting zeroed in on early childhood obesity prevention policies, highlighting recent successes; remaining challenges; and areas where philanthropic support could catalyze swift, smart policy change and improved family support and engagement. The agenda included a stellar line-up of speakers and ample opportunity for funder discussion.
