Crisis Readiness Resources

As reported by Inside Philanthropy, Bloomberg, and others, the White House is preparing executive orders for imminent release that are expected to revoke the tax-exempt status of prominent environmental nonprofits, among other actions. There is speculation that the attacks could extend beyond the environmental sector. This comes on the heels of recent threats made by the administration on social media to revoke the nonprofit status of Harvard University.

We encourage GIH Funding Partners to prepare or review their crisis communications strategies and legal response plans for potential attacks by the administration, regardless of whether they support environmental issues, DEI initiatives, immigrant rights, or other areas targeted by executive orders. We also encourage Funding Partners to be ready to support funders and other nonprofits targeted by the administration as an attack on one is an attack on all.
