How can funders best draw the connection between research, policy, and practice in order to support obesity prevention efforts in early care and education settings?

On December 5, 2012, Grantmakers In Health (GIH) convened the strategy session Supporting Healthy Weight Interventions in Child Care Settings in Washington, DC. Sponsored by Nemours, this invitation-only meeting allowed a select group of 25 researchers, practitioners, and funders to chart out next steps for philanthropy.

Intended as a follow-up to the recent GIH Issue Dialogue Start Smart: Healthy Weight in Early Childhood, this  highly interactive working meeting focused specifically on obesity prevention in early care and education. Together, funders reviewed the evaluation results of promising interventions; identified areas where additional research and evaluation are needed; and discussed policy and practice opportunities at the federal, state, and local levels.
