Supporting Local Food Policy to Create Sustainable Access to Healthy Food

As funders work to increase access to healthy food in communities, the need to invest in a robust local food system continues to grow. If sustainable change is to occur, the policies that govern the production and distribution of food at the local level must be aligned to support the flow of healthy fresh foods to the communities most in need. This webinar offered funders new to and experienced in investing in local food policy a chance to explore opportunities and challenges and learn how funders might begin working in this area. Funders also heard about new resources available to support the work of local food policy councils, and how funders can support local food policy, a critical cornerstone for increasing access to healthy fresh foods. Speakers included: Thai Ha-Ngoc of the Henry P. Kendall Foundation, Anne Palmer and Mark Winne of the Center for a Livable Future at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Jeffery Usher of the Kansas Health Foundation.
