Last month’s GIH webinar The Election’s Impact on Medicaid allowed health funders to hear a preliminary discussion about the future of the Medicaid program, given the results of the general election. The webinar took a deeper dive into the implications of eliminating the Medicaid expansion and capping federal Medicaid funding through block grants or per capita caps, highlighting potential implications for programs targeted to vulnerable populations, including those with substance abuse disorders and serious mental illness, former inmates, and a growing elderly population. The webinar also provided a brief review of President-elect Trump’s nominees for key health positions. Speakers included Deborah Bachrach of Manatt Health and Heather Howard of the State Health Reform Assistance Network.
