COVID-19: Foundations Help Rural Communities Respond and Recover
The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed and exacerbated existing disparities in vulnerable rural communities, which place the 46 million Americans in rural geographies in a particularly precarious situation. In the spring of 2020, Grantmakers In Health reached out to several funders engaged in this work to better understand their perspectives on rural response and recovery and to share those examples with the broader field to assist funders as they determine future needs and strategies in rural areas.
2020 Virtual Fall Forum
Each fall, GIH offers programming designed for funders with a strong interest in health policy. These meetings, collectively known as the Fall Forum, are an excellent opportunity for funders with a strong interest in health policy to get up-to-speed on current issues, interact with leading thinkers, and connect with their grantmaking peers.
COVID-19 and the Impact on 2020 Census Outreach: Shifting Tactics to Get Out the Count
This webinar featured state practitioners who shared how COVID-19 and the Census Bureau’s adjusted operational timeline are impacting 2020 Census outreach. Participants learned what these shifts mean in terms of immediate needs for census organizations’ programs, operations, and staff; explored creative approaches to reach historically undercounted communities; and discussed how census engagement can support long-term capacity building.
Census 2020 Messaging Testing Results
The 2010 Census missed over 2 million young children, most of which were left off the form by families who responded. Participants in this webinar learned more about why families have left children in their households off the census in the past and how to develop persuasive messages to ensure young children are not missed in 2020.
Policies for Those Who Care: Investing in Systems That Support Family Caregivers
Across the country, more than 45 million family members are providing care for older adults with chronic, disabling health conditions. There are a multitude of reasons why health grantmakers should be concerned about this, ranging from caregivers’ critical role in managing the needs of complex care patient populations to the manifold short- and long-term impacts caregiving has on the health and wellness of caregivers themselves.
