New Navigator Funding Available
On March 1, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced $2.3 million in additional funding to current Navigator grantees in federally-facilitated marketplace states to support the outreach, education, and enrollment efforts around the 2021 special enrollment period (now through May 15, 2021). The 30 organizations eligible to receive these funds work across 28 states to help consumers access financial assistance through HealthCare.gov, complete their applications, and enroll in coverage through the marketplace, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Dental Therapy Toolkit
W.K. Kellogg Foundation has released a new toolkit for advocates and partners that spotlights the work of dental therapists and emphasizes how they promote economic development through job creation and business growth, expand the dental care team, and increase access to care for communities across the United States. The toolkit contains helpful fact sheets; an updated timeline; useful one-pagers on why dental therapy matters; messages that frame how dental therapists are cost-effective providers that are making a lasting difference in communities; and a suite of spotlights that feature several practicing, community dental therapists and elevate how they are reaching underserved communities, providing cost-effective care and increasing access through innovation.
Supporting Clinics to Serve as Community Hubs for Health in Central Texas
In Texas, the lack of access to health care, coupled with inadequate and under-resourced systems, has had a profoundly negative impact on communities of color and underserved areas. COVID-19 has laid bare the severity of these issues even more so. These factors, and our commitment to achieving health equity, have informed the St. David’s Foundation’s primary care safety net strategy.

Concerns about the supply, diversity, cultural responsiveness, geographic distribution, and safety of the health workforce have reached a critical level across the country. Philanthropy has a role to play in maximizing the health workforce to achieve patient safety, provider well-being, equitable access, care quality, and improved health outcomes. Therefore, GIH recently conducted a survey to learn about funders’ strategies related to their health workforce investments.
